Back to España

Yesterday, we pulled ourselves out of bed early, even though it was a brisk morning and went for a run along the Tedo. Halfway through our run, we heard barking up the hill, and we were promptly joined by Tony and his buddy. They ran and played with us.

Enjoyed our last breakfast at the Quinta, packed the car and said our goodbyes to Tiago. Such a great stay, and we would love to come back.

Braced ourselves for a long car ride to Gijon, which is on the northern coast of Spain. Once we crossed the border, we refueled (cheapest country for gas) and had a tortilla Española that Martin had concocted the night before. It was delicious!

With a full tank and full stomaches, we hit the road again. Practiced our knowledge cards, read about Paris and did some singing and dancing to our favorite cd Grace made us.

Arrived in Gijon in the evening, parked our car and checked into our hotel. We then set out to explore the city. We walked along the sea for awhile and through the town. The streets were all lit with sparkling Christmas lights, which started to put us in the holiday mood. We enjoyed watching the nightlife as Spaniards of every age were out and about.

Back at the hotel, we were planning on having a salad for dinner, but just before preparation, we realized we had left out trusty utensils in the car. Change of dinner menu. With the little that we had, we chose to break it up into many courses. First, we had sandwiches with mustard, lettuce and cherry tomatoes. Second was hard-boiled eggs. Third, we enjoyed sliced cucumber dipped in mustard. Then we had a cheese course of Manchego. Finally we topped off our dinner with a 100mL chocolate ice cream, all paired with a bottle of Chapoutier. A well-rounded and bountiful meal.
