A Day of Shorts and Flip-Flops

The sun woke us up around 8:30; we leisurely enjoyed breakfast, and got ready for the day. We set out to explore the nearby beaches, first stopping at Portimão's most beautiful beach. Here, the coastline meets the ocean in a dramatic way. The waves and the wind have carved these impressive cliffs, caves, and tiny islands. We walked the beach and took in the view.

It was so warm that we had to go back to the apartment to change into beach attire - flip flips, bikini tops (just for Kate, to be clear) and shorts. Then we headed westward, where found another stunning beach and set up shop there for the afternoon. We soaked in the rays, enjoyed left-overs for lunch, and Martin even took an hour long nap.

After getting some color, we decided to check out the local life in the town of Alvor. It was pretty quiet since over 60% of the economy of this area is brought in by tourism... This is not quite their peak season. Went back to the apartment to relax.

Later, we explored Portimão's marina and sipped coffee at a cafe where we posted the blog. As we were leaving, we witnessed a spectacular sunset with dramatic florescent pinks. This picture doesn't do it justice, but we tried.

Stopped at the grocery store to buy provisions for yet another grilling session. This time we bought steaks and veggies. Enjoyed a nice evening cooking, grilling, eating, tasting wines, and playing cards.
