A Tiny Jewel on the Coast

After a good night's sleep at our b&b in Carcassonne, we enjoyed a delicious French breakfast in the greenhouse in the owner's garden. He was incredibly hospitable.

Slowly got ready, packed our bags and checked out. We drove to Chateau Fontarèche to visit another former intern of Hafner Vineyard who is the Technical Director there. He gave us a tour of the winery and chateau that dates back to 1682. After, we were invited to lunch at his house where we met his wife, daughter and newborn. Lunch was great, and Vincent shared a special bottle of their top wine with us, which was delicious!

After a few hours of catching up, we said our goodbyes and headed towards the coast near the French/Spanish border where we are staying in a town called Collioure. We arrived just after 4pm and checked in to our hotel. Then we took a walk through the village and along the shore. It's an absolutely beautiful town with pastel colored buildings and palm trees, small cobblestone streets filled with tapas restaurants and art galleries... To top it off... The town has a fort! Of course this automatically gives Collioure a leg up on other cities in Martin's book. In all seriousness, it's one of our favorite coastal villages.

Tomorrow... Barcelona here we come!
