On Saturday, we headed to the press with Kay, Vincent and Tia (an American studying in Rome) - all 52 cases in the mini van and trailer. There, our olives weighed in at more than 2,000lbs!! Hard work.

We watched the whole process from beginning to end. It was interesting to see the similarities with winemaking. It was amazing to see the transformation from olives into oil... All much quicker than expected.

Our oil had a picante finish, which goes great with bread and raw vegetables as we later discovered at dinner.
In the afternoon, we explored a few towns in the Chianti region. Our first stop was Volpaia which is a tiny, quaint Medieval village perched on top of a hill.

There we shared a quick lunch of bruschetta and salad.

Later we stopped in two other towns: Radda in Chianti and Castillano in Chianti. Both were full of Medieval narrow, stone passageways, and Martin dragged Kate through as many as he could find!

We closed our day with delicious gelato from a renowned gelateria.
