Enjoyed a picnic lunch on the beach.

Then we decided to head to our hotel so that we could spend the majority of the afternoon exploring Antibes. We parked the car and trekked into the pedestrian only city center with our luggage. We arrived at our hotel, which looked adorable on the town plaza, except for one thing... Red caution tape roping off the front of the hotel. We stood there, weighed our options, laughed a little and checked the confirmation email. The concierge misread Martin's email, thinking we wanted to stay December 12th, not November 12th...they are closed for renovations. So we hiked back to the car, dropped our things and scoped out the hotel options. They were in fact very minimal. We decided the best thing would be to keep making our way westward to Cannes or St. Tropez.
The drive along the coastline was picturesque.

Luckily, we had a travel book of France and decided to call a recommended hotel in St. Raphael (which is between Cannes and St. Tropez). It sounded promising, so we took the chance. When we arrived, it was even better than we expected. It is a family run bed and breakfast in a villa built in 1899, and our room had a great view.

After we settled in, we walked down to the center of town and the beach. Martin finally gave into Kate's persistent wishes to ride the carousel (although he was fairly reluctant). He eventually gave in only because there was a "cool" mini motorcycle that he had his eyes on. When he was about to sit on it, the attendant shattered his dreams, telling him the motorcycle was only for little kids. So he had to settle for a horse.

It was definitely the highlight of Kate's night.
After, we had drinks on the boardwalk and then wandered back to the hotel. We enjoyed dinner on our private balcony.
Today we are headed to Les Calanques, stopping in St. Tropez for lunch. Weather has been amazingly beautiful.
