Gato con Botas

Got up, finished packing and loaded the car, which is still looking as full as ever. Hit the road at 9:20am destined for Chateauneuf-du-Pape to visit a former intern of Hafner Vineyard, who is the winemaker at Chateau Mont Redon. Arrived there around 11am, and Pierre gave us a nice, long tour of the winery, followed by a tasting. We were impressed by the amount of modern technology they use.

Soon after leaving, we decided to pull over on a vineyard road... A perfect place to have our lunch.

Then we hopped in the car and headed to Carcassonne for the night, which according to our travel book is where "Puss in Boots" or "Gato con Botas" is believed to take place... This is one of Martin's favorite childhood books.

Reached Carcassonne at 4:30pm and decided to go directly to the walled fort.

There, we examined every nook and cranny of the wall and hypothesized about potential ways to protect the city. Since it is low season, the medieval city was empty, giving it an even more real Dark Ages feel to it, particularly when we walked into the cathedral, which was only lit by candles and there was a woman singing gregorian chants alone in the front. After Martin felt he had critiqued the fort enough, we headed towards our bed and breakfast... But not before a few last photos.

Martin now wants to be the "Gato con Botas" even more than before.

Our b&b is cute and near the city center. We took an evening stroll, stopped at a bookshop and boulangerie where we purchased dessert for our dinner.
