Canals, canals, canals

Yesterday, we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast at our hotel and then took to the streets. We first made our way to Scuola Grande di San Rocco where we saw beautiful frescos and gilded gold ceilings from over 500 years ago, yet looked as though it was completed recently. We walked around what seemed to be the art district near the southern part of the island where stumbled upon a number of galleries and stopped in an art exhibit of young Middle Eastern artists.

We also found a music museum showcasing a number of antique instruments, and there we learned about the life of Vivaldi.

We had a lunch at a sandwich bar where they offered small prosciutto (or tuna) sandwiches for €1.50. So we enjoyed a few along with a glass of Chardonnay on a bench outside.

Spent the rest of the day wandering the streets of Venice.

Around sunset, we took a gondola ride around the canals. So much more peaceful from the water, and what a different perspective we got of the city.
