As we left Marseille, we drove through amazing landscape with hills that looked as though they were covered in a mix between desert shrubs and high alpine vegetation. This road gave us an incredible panoramic view of Marseille and later Cassis.
We arrived in Cassis around 10am and wandered the streets, ended at the harbor where we sat on the sea wall taking in the view of the pastel colored buildings, the mountains and the sea.

Then we continued our walk through the town where we stumbled upon the perfume "museum"... Not as much a museum as a store. However, that didn't stop of smelling almost every soap and perfume they had.
We enjoyed a salad and sandwich on our wall, then Martin was adamant about finding access to a castle/fort overlooking Cassis. Unfortunately, we discovered that it was either private property or very difficult to find. To appease Martin's urge to explore, we drove to nearby calanques. We even took a five mile, poorly paved road towards to the sea that dead-ended in a parking lot where many hikers began their walk out to the coast. Kate dutifully changed from her espadrilles to hiking boots that went well with her cute striped dress, and we set off to find the calanques. After ten minutes of walking, we came to the conclusion that it would take much longer than expected to reach the sea, and if we were prepared, it wouldn't have been an issue but being veteran hikers, we realized it just wasn't our day.
Headed back to our temporary home.
